First trip to New York...I need ideas?

I am graduating college on May 5th and am about to begin planning for a 5 day trip to New York mid June for my graduation present!! I have never been so I need all kinds of suggestions: best restaurants, museums, buildings, stores, sights, hotel, etc. For a hotel, we don't want to spend a lot but still want one that is clean and with a continental breakfast. Also, subway or cabs? Any ideas would be helpful. I'm from the south and have never been to a big city like New York. Also, how is the weather typically in June? Thanks so much!First trip to New York...I need ideas?
When you arrive, pick up a 7 day unlimited metrocard. It will allow you to ride the subway and local buses as much as you need for a flat rate of $29. You can waste that much on just one round trip ride in a taxi from midtown to downtown, so even though you're only here for 5 days, it's worth buying the 7 day pass. Here's the details: http://www.mta.info/metrocard/mcgtreng.h鈥?/a>

Regarding dining, attractions, museums, etc.. we have every food imaginable, so don't get caught up eating in some corporate chain like TGIF's, etc.. Why dine in a place you have in your own hometown? There is plenty of great ethnic cuisine in the downtown area and lots of great little indoor/outdoor cafes in the Village, etc.. You may also want to consider taking a double decker bus tour. The hop on/hop off ones are quite popular because they allow you to get off the bus, walk around and get back on another bus at a later time or day (they offer different package that last for days if you choose).

As for hotels... I'm guessing like most tourists, you'll want to be centrally located, so if you stay in Midtown, avoid Times Square if you have any kind of a budget.

June is warm and can get hot, but not really until the end of the month. NYC gets humid, so it always feels warmer than it is, so dress light.

There are also many free things to do in NYC, including museums, historical monuments and even outdoor movies in Bryant Park.

This website will give you details on everything I've mentioned above, including hotels:

Have fun!
When I visit New York I usually stay in Brooklyn. It's cheaper and has super convenient access to Manhattan and pretty much anything you might want to see. I always stay at Hotel Le Jolie, the hotel and rooms are really cute/modern and they've got your continental breakfast. The metro station is also only like a block away. Congratulations on graduating!

Have a great trip,

Take a cab only to/from the airport when you have all that luggage. During your stay, take the subway, don't worry, it's safe. And bring shoes that are comfortable to walk in. And for something to do, my personal favorite from April through September (and you can say into October if you want too) is to catch a home Yankees game.

The weather in June is great and so is the mood in the city!Everyone is feeling happy, the tourist come more often and a lot more things are available during this this time of the year. Why? Because summertime begins in this month and everything is a lot more lively. Usually the temperature is around from 75-80 degrees in the beginning of June and mid-late-end of june its probably around 85-89 degrees. So great weather, great people and lots of great places to go to.

I would just say that at some point you will have to walk the busy streets of NY and actually learn how to walk "like a New Yorker". Everyone here are always walking fast and its like a really fast paced life and it might be annoying with everyone bumping into you but its really exciting!

Have fun in New York because there is so much to do and I didn't even mention have of the things you can do here. It's wonderful and especially around this time of the year you are guaranteed to have a good time.

I hope my answer was useful and good luck when you get here!
First of all, my friend, if you're taking a taxi in NYC, only take it when you coming from or going to the airport and you're welling to pay $30 to $45 one way. Do not take a taxi within the city to get around. Trips withing the city, should be left for the subway, which is cheap.

The trip on the subway is $2.25 one way with a pay per ride MetroCard. However, since you going to be in town for 5 days, I would recommend purchasing a weekly unlimited ride MetroCard, which a huge money saver. The 7-day unlimited ride MetroCard will cost you only $29.

In regards to the weather. My friend, you're traveling in May, which means the weather in the Big Apple will be warm. Temps here are going to range between the 70s and 80s, which is perfect weather to catch a home game at Yankee Stadium.

In addition, if you want to know the latest weather condition in NYC before you travel, you can check out the website from one of our local TV station in the city. This is one is from WNBC-TV Channel 4.

Now, in regards to your main question. There are plenty things to see and do in the Big Apple. However, rather than making a list here, I'm going to include a link to my blog, which has a small list of the top attractions in the city.

Good luck
